WWW Wednesday is a book meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words . The three Ws are :

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

I am reading Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. This is the second book in a duology. The book is fast paced and has kept me hooked enough to read the second part the very next day. The duology belongs to the YA fantasy genre.

What did you recently finish reading?

The first part of the duology – Six of Crows. I wanted to read something in the fantasy genre and this was suggested as the next best thing after Harry Potter series.

The book is set in the fictional city of Ketterdam of the Grishaverse trilogy by the same author. Kaz Brekker is offered a dangerous heist, which he undertakes along with his crew. The book follows these six main characters through their journey.

Though sometimes heist movies and novels lose much of their plot in explaining the complexities of action, instead of exploring characters , Six of Crows fabulously rises above this, and has characters with powerful and moving narratives. I loved the all the characters – they are flawed, have tragic pasts but yet strong.

Bardugo also explores the themes of xenophobia and racism- with characters belonging to different nations and/or race.

It was a great YA fantasy read, with a good worldbuilding, but it was more, I think what made this book great was the characters- each of them had a moving voice.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I am planning on reading City of Djinns by William Dalrymple, which is a Travel Literature book. The book chronicles the city of Delhi- its history and present day Delhi. Dalrymple is a historian, but his non- fiction books are a treat even for fiction lovers.
